Self Adhesive Tape, Water Activated Tape and Heat Activated Tape

Self Adhesive Tape

"Pressure sensitive tape", "PSA tape", "Self stick tape", "Sticky tape." These tapes all consist of a pressure sensitive adhesive coated onto a backing material such as paper, plastic film, cloth, or metal foil. It is made to stick without any heat or solvent to activate it and sticks with just light pressure.

Masking Tape

Masking tape is a pressure sensitive tape made of a thin, easy-to-tear paper. It is considered an easily released pressure sensitive adhesive. It is available in a variety of widths and is used mainly in painting, to mask off areas that should not be painted.

Water activated tape

"Water activated tape", "gummed paper tape" or "gummed tape" is starch or sometimes animal glue-based adhesive on a paper backing. Gummed tape is used as packing tape for closing and sealing boxes. Before closing corrugated fiberboard boxes, the tape is wetted/moistened to make the adhesive sticky again.

One type of gummed tape is called reinforced gummed tape (RGT). The backing of this tape has two layers of paper with a cross-pattern of fiberglass fibers sandwiched between them to reinforce the tape. Box sealing tapes such as the reinforced gummed tape are an important part of any shipper's supplies.

Filament Tape

Filament tape or strapping tape is another pressure sensitive tape used for packaging functions like closing corrugated fiberboard or cardboard boxes, reinforcing packages, bundling items, grouping items on a pallet, etc. It consists of a pressure sensitive adhesive coated onto a backing material such as polypropylene or polyester film with fiberglass filaments embedded to add strength.
