Stretch Wrap Film Helps Keep Your Stuff Together

Stretch wrap film or stretch film is a very stretchable plastic film that is wrapped around items when preparing them for shipping. The stretchiness keeps the items held together. In contrast, another wrapping plastic, shrink wrap, is applied loosely around an item and shrinks tightly when heat is applied.

stretchwrapThis film is often used to hold loads together on a pallet but may also be used to bundle smaller items.

Some stretch film can stretch 500% before it breaks, but is usually only stretched up to 300% in normal use. Other properties such as break strength, cling, clarity, tear resistance, static discharge, etc. are also important to consider.

  • Stretch wrap is important because it can:
  • Improve the stability of products or packages on a pallet
  • Provide some protection from tampering
  • Create more efficient handling and storage of pallet loads
  • Provide a certain degree of dust and moisture protection

Making sure cartons stay on the pallet is an important consideration. Stretch wrapping is the most cost-effective way to keep loads held together on a pallet.

Stretch wrap can also be applied by hand with small rolls of film. Dispensers are also available for larger rolls. A stretch wrap machine is available to automate the process. It evenly distributes just the right amount of stretch film and saves a lot of labor during the wrapping process.
